Basement Remodel Offers Spacious Gathering Spot for Family Fun

This remodeling project is located in Harrisburg, PA and was completed for an existing client who built an EGStoltzfus custom home in 2010. When the homeowner decided it was time to finish their basement, they reached out to our Custom Homes & Remodeling team for assistance.

Background
When we built our client’s custom home, we prepped a location in the house that could accommodate a future elevator. This ensured convenient access to all floors of the home, should the homeowners want to ‘age in place’ at the residence.

The client desired to finish the basement so they would have additional space to entertain adult friends and family members as well as their grandchildren. They initially decided to do the remodel themselves but soon realized they lacked the time to complete it – so they re-connected with EGStoltzfus.

Remodel Plan
Our team met with the client to explore the space and understand their vision for the project. As the basement came to ‘virtual’ life through 3D designs created by our team, the client realized they could expand the finished portion of the basement by 235 sq. ft. instead of keeping excessive storage space. This also allowed us to incorporate an existing twin window into the design, providing lots of additional natural light to the finished portion of the basement.

To transform the space into an elegant yet comfortable gathering spot for family and guests, 24” x 24” coffered ceiling tiles were installed. The ceiling design is not only visually appealing, but it also creates a sense of height and openness.

Additional basement features include:

  • A Heat & Glo gas fireplace surrounded with wall-to-wall custom built-ins and a recessed niche for a TV above the fireplace mantle
  • Inclinator hydraulic elevator with custom-stained walls that coordinated with the homeowner’s existing cherry floors
  • EPHenry paver patio and terrace walls just outside the walk-out basement doors for easy access to the backyard

Client Feedback
The homeowner was thrilled with the final product. Their adult children and grandchildren live nearby and visit frequently. And the grandchildren know the rules – get the serious schoolwork done on the first floor of the home…and head to the basement for playtime! We wish our client much happiness in their new space and appreciate their trust in our Custom Homes & Remodeling team.
